Update, July 21, 2010:
Efforts to join with the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce to create the Central DeKalb Council seems to have failed as there has been no response this year by the Chamber to move forward with this effort. NCA has postponed other efforts to create a CID due to the weak economy. At the July 2010 meeting of the Board of Trustees, Emory Morsburger, redeveloper and CID consultant addressed the Board regarding the advisability of moving forward now. The CID Committee will be meeting with Mr. Morsberger in the next two weeks to determine whether to join forces with him and then plan a strategy. We are hopeful that we can gather support from the major businesses in the area to fund the prerequisites for a CID for Northlake.
Update, July 31, 2009:
The NCA, since this time (2003-2004), completed what we could during the one year funded by the Development Authority. We couldn't raise adequate funding, during the economic decline over the past several years, to match the Authority's proposal of matching dollar for dollar up to $25,000 during the year after the 1st $25,000 grant year. In 2008, we partnered with the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce to try and establish a Central DeKalb Council of the Chamber whose early mission would be to evaluate and hopefully raise funds from the business community needed to continue creation of a CID for Northlake. This effort has also been delayed due to bad economic times as it is hard to raise funds when businesses are laying people off. Stay tuned please. |
